Sara's apartment was small but tidy. Sofia tried not to openly stare as she took in her surroundings. There was a beat up recliner over by a window with a stack of journals piled next to it. Books on varying subjects from physics to sociology lined a bookcase against another wall. A shiny object that reflected beams from the sunlight caught Sofia's eye. It was on top of the bookcase in a plastic case. Upon further inspection, the object had a silvery metallic appearance and was only a few inches long. Sofia frowned as she touched the plastic case. She knew what it looked like but it didn't make sense.

"It's one of the barbs from the taser Natalie Davis used." Sara had come up behind Sofia to see what had captured her interest. Sofia turned to look at Sara. Sara shrugged sheepishly. "This may sound weird but I look at it and it reminds me to get up every day. To keep moving. Keep breathing." Sara took in Sofia's concerned expression and got uncomfortable under the knowing gaze. "You think it's stupid."

"No, not at all.," Sofia replied. "I actually admire you for being able to turn something negative into something positive." Sara nodded but didn't openly acknowledge the compliment. "Do you take cream and sugar?"

"Cream, please." Sara walked away to pour the coffee leaving Sofia to ponder the fact that Sara didn't seem to react to compliments. Sofia continued to walk around the room hoping to learn more about the very private C.S.I. from her living space. There was a surprising lack of photos in the room. Sofia spotted one photo of the whole crime lab gang on Sara's hallway table. There was also a photo of her dousing Greg with champagne. It had probably been the night that Greg had first worked as a C.S.I. Sofia had been invited to the party but had gotten tied up with a case and had missed it. What she didn't see were any family pictures or any pictures of Sara and Grissom together. The former surprised her a bit but not the latter. If Sara and Grissom had wanted to keep their relationship secret, it wouldn't do to have evidence lying around. Sofia had heard rumors that Sara had not had a happy childhood. She couldn't recall in the three years working with Sara ever hearing her mention any family.

"Hey Curtis, are you done snooping? This coffee isn't going to drink itself." Sofia jumped slightly at the teasing voice that called from the kitchen. She felt her face flush as she realized she had kinda been snooping. Sofia walked into the kitchen to see Sara leaning against the kitchen counter with a mug clutched in both hands. As Sofia approached, Sara reached over to grab her cup and pass it to the detective. "Thanks." Sofia gratefully reached for the caffeine fix and took a sip. Her eyebrows rose as she tasted a familiar flavor. Sara had a knowing grin on her face and tried to hide it behind the rim of her mug as she sipped. "Sanders has so been holding out on me!," Sofia protested. Sara put her mug down and Sofia could see the adorable gap in her teeth at the full fledged smile.

Sara couldn't help but laugh at Sofia's mock outrage. Her accent always seemed more pronounced when she was angry or fired up about something. "We can't all be Greg's favorite, Sofia." Sara waited for the smirk to appear and wasn't disappointed. "Now that's just playing dirty, Sidle." Sofia put her coffee mug down on the counter and continued. "I can see right through you. This whole Natalie Davis crap was just an elaborate ruse to get Greg's coffee." Sara barked out a laugh in surprise. "Greg has always hooked me up.," Sara baited, clearly enjoying the banter between them. "Until he traded you in for a younger model.," Sofia replied, pointing to herself. Sara's jaw dropped in indignation. "You are so not holding a two year age difference over me." Sara's voice had taken on a deadly tone. "I'm just stating a fact.," Sofia said, her own voice just as low. Both women stared the other down and there was a pleasant crackle in the air between them. "Well, Greg knows my Sidle scent as he calls it. Bet he doesn't know a Curtis scent. Then again, some of us are more pleasant smelling than others." Sara waved her hand in front of her nose and mockingly stared into Sofia's face watching her eyes darken. "Are you implying that I stink?" Sofia advanced towards the smirking brunette slowly as if stalking prey. Sara certainly felt like bait as she was pinned by those dark blue eyes. Sofia was right up in her personal space now and Sara found she didn't mind one bit. Sofia poked Sara's stomach lightly and was rewarded with Sara squirming and batting her hands away. Both women started laughing and Sofia unleashed a full onslaught on Sara who having little room to maneuver on her bad ankle decided to take it to higher ground. She hopped up on the counter and continued batting the detective's persistent hands away both of them laughing the whole time. "Tell me I don't stink, Sidle.," Sofia grunted as she squeezed right above Sara's knee and got a yelp out of her. Sara deciding to use every advantage attempted to trap the detective between her legs and squeeze. She only managed that for a short while as Sofia somehow was able to run her fingers on Sara's hamstring causing her to release her in surprise. Sofia quickly acted while Sara was distracted and picked the squirming woman up and hoisted her over her shoulder.

"God dammnit, Curtis! What are you doing?" Sara couldn't believe how strong the blonde was. She had picked her up like a sack of potatoes and was carrying her to the living room. "Sara, it's very simple," Sofia said in a calm voice, "all you have to do is tell me I don't stink and that I'm Greg's favorite." Sofia couldn't believe that she was carrying Sara Sidle over her shoulder and was enjoying it immensely. She hadn't felt comfortable enough to play with someone like this in a long time. "And if I don't?," Sara asked Sofia's back.

"Let's just say I have you at a disadvantage." Sofia lightly smacked Sara's ass. She was prepared for the oof of surprise but not for the sharp pinch to her own ass that followed. Sofia stumbled a bit and decided to dump her captive on the cushy dark green couch in front of her. She slowly lowered Sara ass first onto the couch mindful to keep her ankle protected. "Do you yield?," she asked the glaring brunette. A pillow upside her head was her answer. "Okay Sidle, gloves are coming off now." Sofia carefully removed her holster and set it a safe distance away before pouncing on the smirking woman on the couch. Sara gamely engaged the woman on top of her both defending herself from the tickling fingers and poking back with her own. The women were on sensory overload as each registered the feeling of a warm body against them, teasing hands, and heat. There was a pleasant soreness in each rib cage from laughing and both slowed their movements as their breaths became more labored. Sofia was laying between Sara's legs and had one of Sara's arms pinned while Sara had one of hers in a vice like grip. "Do you give up yet, Sidle?" Sofia's hair had come undone during the fray and currently obstructed Sara's view as she leaned over her. She released Sofia's arm and slowly moved the hair aside so Sofia could see her expression. She shook her head and grinned. "Never." Sofia stared into the brown eyes full of defiance and spirit. There was something else there that was drawing Sofia in. Sofia slowly leaned down and before she knew it, she was kissing Sara. It was light and quick and she was about to pull away in shock when she felt Sara's hand on the back of her head pulling her back down. Sara met her halfway and Sofia groaned as their lips met again. Sara had been shocked at the move initially but recovered quickly and was now reveling in the softness of Sofia's lips and tongue. Sofia kept her eyes closed as she memorized the feeling of Sara's fingers in her hair while her other hand teasingly snuck around Sofia's hip. Sofia's hands were far from idle themselves. Sara felt one hand caressing the side of her face while the other was squeezing the back of her thigh. Sara only broke their kiss to explore Sofia's tempting neck. She could feel the blonde's pulse rapidly beating against her lips. Sofia bit her lip as she felt Sara making her way to her shoulder with those insistent lips. She couldn't stop the groan from escaping as Sara lightly bit her shoulder causing Sofia to push her body forward where it was trapped between Sara's legs. Sara's answering groan almost undid Sofia. Things were rapidly getting out of control. There was a little voice in the back of Sofia's mind screaming at her to stop. She tried to focus through the feelings and sensations bombarding her. At last, an image of Grissom popped into her head and Sofia jumped back from Sara gasping for breath.

"Fuck, Sara we have to stop." Sara leaned her upper body up and stared at the detective with an amused grin. "Do you always swear when you make out?" Sofia shook her head as if confused by the question. Sara was tempted to reach out and trace the frown that had appeared on the blonde's face. "Sara, the point is that we shouldn't even be making out. You're with Grissom. I'm a complete shit for putting you in this position."

Sara sat up and took pity on the distraught woman who had just kissed the hell out of her. Sofia had her hand over here eyes as if she didn't trust herself to look at Sara. Sara gently took Sofia's hand away from her eyes and held it in her own. "Sofia. Look at me." Sofia reluctantly brought her eyes to meet Sara's. Sara almost felt the breath knocked out of her at the intensity of emotion in the eyes. She realized there was no way Sofia had kissed her on a whim. There was something else going on. Sofia felt naked and exposed but she saw no judgement in the warm brown gaze staring back at her. "Grissom and I broke up." Sara lightly ran her thumb over the back of Sofia's hand, trying to calm the frazzled woman. "And I have no problem with the position you've put me in." Sara gestured to the couch they had been haphazardly laying on. Sofia blushed thinking how comfortable she had been laying on top of Sara. Sara couldn't resist touching the warmed flesh of Sofia's cheek with the back of her fingers.

"So besides the Grissom thing, which is really a non-issue, you don't have any problem with the woman thing?" Sofia shook her head in response. "No, definitely no problem with that one."

Sara smirked. "Why Detective Curtis! What other secrets are lurking under the surface?" Sofia arched an eyebrow as she met Sara's intrigued gaze. "It isn't a secret. I just don't broadcast to the world. I certainly never heard you mention that particular fact." Sara nodded, acknowledging the last part of Sofia's reply, "I haven't kissed another woman since I left San Francisco." "That's a really long time.," Sofia replied. "Yeah," Sara shook her head in wonder, "I didn't know how much I had missed it until now."

Sofia was completely floored with the course the afternoon had taken. She had gone from dealing with having more than friendly feelings towards Sara to finding out Sara and Grissom broke up and now, that Sara had dated women before. She could feel the headache coming on and leaned back on the other side of the couch with a pillow over her face and groaned. She felt the pillow come off her face a few seconds later and cracked an eye open to see Sara leaning over her.

"Are you alright?" She's gotta be kidding me. I have all five foot eight and a half inches of Sara Sidle leaning over me, my heart is about to explode and she's asking if I'm alright? "I feel like I'm stuck in a Twilight Zone episode.," Sofia confessed. Sara frowned and made herself comfortable as she lay face down between Sofia's legs. Her arms were piled one on top of the other on the blonde's stomach and her chin rested on the top of her arms. Sofia acutely felt the soft breasts on her crotch and thought maybe Sara was trying to kill her from overstimulation. But when she looked closer at the brunette it looked as if Sara didn't realize what she was doing. She seemed preoccupied with Sofia's comment.

For her part, Sara did indeed have no idea she was making Sofia crazy. Curling up with the detective just felt natural to her and if she had taken the time to really think that through it would probably scare the hell out of her. Sara finally gave up trying to interpret Sofia's comment. "Why do you say that?"

Sofia looked at Sara as if trying to explain the obvious. "Sara, you hated me when I first got here." "I never hated you.," Sara interrupted. Sofia arched an eyebrow at the comment. "Okay, I'll admit there was friction," Sara began, "but I never hated you." Sofia pushed a brunette strand of hair out of Sara's eyes and Sara leaned into the pleasant touch. "But can you understand that I never expected this," Sofia gestured to their current position, "that you would-." "Kiss you back?," Sara finished. "Ye, yes.," Sofia uncharacteristically stammered. When did I forget how to speak? "Well, I'll admit that you floored me, Curtis. But in a good way." "So you're not angry then?," Sofia looked so fragile that it broke Sara's heart. "No, I'm not angry. I'm just surprised. I had no idea you were attracted to me."

"And now that you know?," Sofia looked at the always schooled expression of the woman resting on her stomach. Sara was very good at hiding what was going on in her head. "Well, I'm attracted to you too but I have to be honest with you. I just got out of a relationship and I'm not ready to dive into anything yet." Sofia kept her face neutral but inside there was a cold stab of doubt churning. "But I would like to get to know you better if you can be patient with me.," Sara shyly continued. Sofia smiled at the cautious face across from her. "I think I can handle that." She was rewarded with the full gap-toothed Sidle grin as an answer.

"Now if you'll excuse me, nature calls." Sara carefully got up from the couch and hobbled to the bathroom. She knew that she was hiding but she figured she could allow herself a minute to process what had just happened. She closed the bathroom door behind her and sat on the closed lid of the toilet and exhaled. Nonchalance was a mask that Sara wore well and it had definitely been on a few minutes ago. She envied Sofia's ability to so beautifully communicate her feelings through her facial expressions and her mannerisms. Sara was used to dealing with someone as emotionally challenged as she was. With Sofia she felt like a fish out of water. Sofia had a balls out honesty that was refreshing and a little intimidating at times. Sofia had kissed Sara and had admitted she was attracted to her instead of blowing it off like it was nothing. Sara wondered if the positions had been reversed would she have done the same. She probably would have chickened out. It was only after seeing the vulnerability in Sofia's face that she felt comfortable revealing her own attraction. Sofia was a bit of a conundrum which Sara found completely fascinating. The blonde was able to convey how she felt nonverbally yet she was also able to completely shut people out if she chose as Sara had seen in the car when she had inquired about where the detective had been all week.

Sara rose from her sitting position and flushed the toilet to keep up the illusion. She exited the bathroom and was about to call something out to Sofia when she saw the blonde reclined on the couch with her eyes closed and her chest slowly rising up and down. Sara smiled at the sleeping woman and tugged the blanket draped over the back of the couch onto the exhausted blonde. She couldn't resist leaning over and softly kissing Sofia's forehead. Looking at the clock, Sara knew that Sofia had the right idea so she headed to her bedroom to follow suit.
